WE ARE CHAPEAU

Adaptability, a wide toolset, and a deep, versatile roster of digital artists and technologists allow us to create bespoke workflows for our clients.

Workflow innovation has always been a key differentiator for Chapeau. Rather than ask our clients to shape their creative to our pipeline, Chapeau shapes our pipeline to the creative. When our competitors were investing in heavy, platform-specific CG pipelines, Chapeau was investing in a lighter footprint with smaller, more powerful, highly adaptive systems for high-end photoreal CG. We brought VFX, Graphics, and Editorial to set before virtual production became a phenomenon.

Our foundation in Visual Effects has served us well, weaving the spirit of visual and technical innovation into Chapeau’s DNA.

AR PERSPECTIVE

AR content into a Real-Time broadcast signal path

AR DEMO

Product Goal:To share live AR demo experiences through multiple broadcast cameras simultaneously from a live event in real time.

What We Made: Created an App process that integrates AR content from an iOS device into a 4K 60fps HDV broadcast pipeline.

Results: We created a proof-of-concept and a development roadmap to expand current live event limitations... The prototype would have allowed guests remotely viewing online or at the event to view the AR demo experience through any of the broadcast camera perspectives.

Touchstone Goals

We were charged with three primary goals and given an awareness of the big picture.

  1. World Alignment: of multiple coordinate systems.

  2. App State: Ability to pass AR related data from and to the demo device.

  3. Render & Composite: Render from the point of view of each camera, including lens intrinsics.

RETAIL WALL + IN-STORE SCREENS

Content for Retail Wall and Out Of Home experiences.

WALL EXPERTISE

Product Goal: We were asked to architect and build a high resolution content system to run on enormous proof of concept LED tiles for global retail stores.

What We Made: Using 3 different LED tile manufactures we built a proof of concept video wall for Apples Employee Store at 1 Infinite Loop.  We created 8 minutes of 6K animated CG content per quarter to play from a remote RMM cloud server.  125 stores installed walls and we quickly needed to build a transcoding server to auto-transcode 1.7 million 6K frames per quarter into 21 resolutions and 27 languages.

Results: After executive approval our single wall bloomed into 125 video that were integrated into retail stores around the world.  Pixel perfect, color accurate 6K 60fps content that can be remotely programmed in realtime from a cloud based RMM.

LUCID: OUTERNET LONDON

The world’s largest LED Screen Deployment

THE CHALLENGES

Scale: The canvas size dictated that the project be based on a real-time platform. If pre-rendered had been attempted, there would have been petabytes of data to exchange every day.

Flexibility: Make large format real-time graphics schedulable utilizing the same interface tools used in traditional broadcast media.

Autonomy: Allow the system to run real-time graphics 24 hours a day without human intervention.

Robustness: Ensure data validation and asset status awareness between multiple departments as well as on-the-day assets sync for 7 different spaces

THE SOLUTIONS

Scale: Embracing real-time as the foundational technology for success and specifically implementing Ventuz as the render engine and content creation platform allows the combination of rendered asset playback and environmental generative graphics in the same publishing platform.

Flexibility: Implementing Rocketship (Developed by Lucid) as the central hub of information and data validation between the scheduling software, rendering software, and file system.

Autonomy: Rocketship drives the Ventuz port system to only preload the next scene according to the schedule in an endless just-in-time sequence without human intervention.

Robustness: Using Rocketship to act as the single central source of truth for real-time graphics scene data validation, the information required to be confident in what will appear on screen is at everyone’s fingertips.

LUCID: BRISTOL MEYERS SQUIBBS

1000 Hours of interactive Content

THE CHALLENGES

Pixels: Filling 13K canvases from single graphics cards at frame rate with high-quality, interactive, graphics.

Interactivity: Programing Logic for many unique interaction modes.

Variety: Providing content to fill two space for a full calendar year, with 4 seasonal modes and 6 variations for each season.

Duration: Designing, programming, and reviewing over 50 unique 18hour timeline progressions.

THE SOLUTIONS

Pixels: Meticulously optimized Notch scenes. In-room time to implement programming techniques to lower performance overhead while maintaining visual parity.

Interactivity: Through vertical integration between art and technical teams, we were able to design and adapt the programing environment to each situation.

Variety: Developing a versatile modeling and rendering pipeline using Houdini and Notch allowed us to create unique results while maintaining consistent pipeline

Duration: Developing custom tooling and Pixera API interfaces for faster and more intuitive workflows.
