When Apple launched its Watch in 2015, it asked Chapeau to help create a customer-facing campaign that would demonstrate the functionality of this new device and familiarize customers with interactions that were built into the UI and product design. With hundreds of videos to create, Chapeau approached this campaign by developing a modular video production workflow. Studying the device and business goals for the videos, Chapeau proposed creating a library of hand gestures unique to iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch products, which saved hundreds of thousands of dollars (or more) that would otherwise have been needed for months of motion capture video shoots. These gestures, along with Chapeau’s customized animation and compositing pipeline, were used to make 150 bespoke instructional UI videos in just a few months. Our approach was so successful that our toolkit and workflow became the foundation for 1000+ videos in about a year, all with a team of less than 20 artists.

Chapeau Knows CKE

Over the course of nine campaigns, we evolved with 72 & Sunny to develop solid communication and robust, efficient workflows. This partnership connected dedicated teams that share a deep knowledge of the CKE ecosystem and aesthetic.

Set Supervision. Perfect Post starts in Production. Chapeau’s on-set Supervisors are your Directors’ secret weapons. From framing, lighting, and tracking expertise to deep technical know-how, Chapeau Supervisors work hand-in-hand with Production to guarantee high-utility footage without sacrificing creative freedom. 

Finishing. No one is better at Finishing than Chapeau. Our artists are the best in the business, and our tried and tested Finishing workflow is built for producing the highest-quality work efficiently and at the right scale. With Chapeau at the helm, you have no missed deadlines, no missed deliveries, no kickbacks, and very happy creatives.

Design & Animation. The right design from concept to completion. Look development, previs, typography, animation and 3D motion graphics make design a Chapeau pillar. Our fluency with the CKE brand enabled us to precisely leverage that design language to push campaign visuals, keeping the work fresh, as well as  helping enable fast turnaround times. Our CKE journey began with animating Happy’s mouth, and grew not only to delivering all graphics assets, but also designing and animating the 2022 graphics refresh. Design is present throughout all aspects of production, feeding Chapeau’s love for thinking BIG, and applying that thinking into the next campaign.

Product Index, Asset Library & Data Management. Our stress-tested IT infrastructure seamlessly supports artists in different locations with private Cloud-based access to our secure servers, which house our meticulously-compiled library of CKE assets. Over the course of nine windows with Chapeau, CKE generated 50+ products, 100’s of ingredients, and over 48 TBs of data for us to manage. With no direct access to the AOR’s asset management system, Chapeau proactively built and maintained our own internal CKE asset library and product index. Every product we worked on is indexed with its ingredients, metadata, hero key angle, final Color reference, and OCN name to its shot(s) and location on our server. Chapeau’s CKE library and index allow us to bypass some of the hurdles that agency platforms have created, so we can keep the work moving.

Dedicated Team. Chapeau’s CKE team grew from 6 to more than 20 visual effects and design professionals. Without Chapeau's historical knowledge, turnaround times would not have been able to meet the speed at which the work needed to be dialed-in and shipped. Our Flame Lead, Lead Assistant, and Food Colorist have all worked on the account since it came to Chapeau, and have a fluency in the language of CKE that allows us to work efficiently and effectively with agency creatives & Producers. Along with our Leads, Chapeau’s Visual Effects Supervisor, Head of Production, Creative Director, two Colorists, three Flame Assistants, four Producers, and 15 support Flame Artists were trained in how best to work on CKE projects, ensuring that every time we began a new campaign, the work was in experienced hands.
