The goal was to surprise, delight, and engage Facebook users by giving them a video personalized with their own content.
Friends Day is a live-action design film (with 2D animation elements) that used Chapeau’s dynamic compositing process to create “live” video files, which were turned into millions of personalized videos.
The videos were instantly a success. Facebook still has the highest number of logged in users among all social platforms. So when these videos go live, they are shared around the world within hours. In Friends Day release Facebook stated they anticipated about 10% of the people who saw their video would share it. Instead, over 40% of the viewers were sharing. Over 720 million videos rendered, with 9 million videos rendered per hour.
